The Blessings of Serving the Lord – Exodus 23:25
Exodus 23:25 – “You shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.”
According to Exodus 23:25, God gives a powerful promise which is also connected to a principle.
He says: “You shall serve the Lord your God…”, that’s our part, this is what is required of us.
Then He says: “…and He will bless your bread and your water, and take sickness away from among you.”, and this is God’s part which will b fulfilled as we do our part.
Serving God is not just something we do on Sunday morning, bible study or in a prayer group; it’s a lifestyle of devotion, obedience, and love. When we make serving God our priority, He makes blessing us His responsibility.
Let’s see the three promises that come to those who faithfully serve God:
- Provision – God will meet your needs.
- Protection – God will cover your life.
- Preservation – God will sustain your future.
1st point – Serving the Lord Brings Provision
The verse says, “He will bless your bread and your water.”
This means God will take care of your basic needs: your daily bread, your sustenance, your livelihood. He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider!
When you put God first, you don’t have to chase blessings, blessings will begin to chase you. When you honour God with your time, your talent, your tithes, He makes sure you never run dry.
As recorded in the bible:
He fed Elijah with ravens by the brook: 1 Kings 17:1-6.
He multiplied a widow’s oil until it overflowed: 2 Kings 4:1-7
He took five loaves and two fish and fed thousands: Matthew 14:13-21
If He did it then, He can do it again for you!
Jesus said in Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” When you serve the Lord, you never lack what you need.
2nd point – Serving the Lord Brings Protection
Then God says, “I will take sickness away from among you.” That’s a promise of divine health and covering.
Serving God places your life under His divine shield. It doesn’t mean you’ll never face challenges, but it means sickness, trouble, and evil will not have the final word over you.
When you walk in service to God, when your heart beats for Him, He watches over you. He becomes your healer when you’re weak, your strength when you’re weary, and your refuge in the storm.
Psalm 91:10 says: “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.”
Child of God, there is protection in service! There is healing in obedience! There is covering in faithfulness!
3rd point – Serving the Lord Brings Preservation
When Israel served God, He not only blessed them in that moment, He preserved them for generations. God’s favour doesn’t stop with you; it flows through you to your children, your household, and your future. Your faithful service today lays the foundation for blessings tomorrow.
The psalmist said, “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” (Psalm 37:25)
That’s generational blessing! That’s preservation! When you serve the Lord, you secure your legacy in His hands.
The key to a blessed life is not striving, it’s serving. When you serve God with all your heart, He blesses your provision, your health, and your generations.
So today, I want to challenge you:
Serve Him with joy.
Serve Him with consistency.
Serve Him in your home, your work, your church, your community.
Because the God you serve is faithful to reward. For when you serve Him, He will Provide, Protect and Preserve you.
Father, thank You for the assurance that serving You brings blessing, favour, and healing. Teach me to serve You faithfully with joy, with humility, and with all my heart. Let Your hand of provision rest upon me, let Your protection surround me, and let Your presence preserve me all the days of my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen
